“INFO ABOUT A DEVICE!”

08/08/2007 4:33 PM

8/8/07

Dear Knowledgeable Engineers,

Hello, I need a telescoping (similar to a transistor radio antenna) or flexible device (60 or so inches) and/or unit that can be programmed to meet my specifications. (Making a series of right angle corners...etc) Maybe a radio controlled unit or one that is able to comprehend what a computer is programming into the device or contraption. I need to know of or where I can locate one so I could continue with my research. Does anyone know of such a device is?

I really appreciate the time that you spent answering my question and I am eagerly waiting for your response.

Sincerely, Louie

Can't really grasp your requirement...

But it sounds like a remotely controlled arm to me...V expensive or make your own.

Qs

Range of movement?

Load to be carried?

Positional accuracy/rigidity?

Does it need to grasp?

Does it need to bend or navigate around corners?

x y & z coordinates presumably?

Will the operator be able to observe the device e.g he will provide the feedback.

Does it have to be motorised or can it be 'mandraulic' (joke word for manual).

You are a bit vague as to the device's limiting factors as well as application, but I'll go first [or second, Del Gato].

Do you want to look inside? Do you want to measure distance, temp, surface finish, etc.? Are we dealing with a continuous diameter or does it reduce? Is the ID surface finish susceptible to scratching and/or contamination? Is it bigger than a breadbox? Can you tie a string to a camera and microphone laden gerbil?

How big a diameter are we talking here? 2.54cm is gonna be a very limiting factor. 39.03in not so much. A series of right turns. Are they 90 degrees?

Other limiting factors such as temp, atmosphere (gaseous, aqueous), kosher, etc.

Try a bore scope, fiber optic or video scope. Try fish tape. Try pipeline pig. Build your own.

I, too, think the post is quite vague. GERARD18, please be more specific as to what you are looking for.

Mr. Rummel, are you just teasing Del? You know how much he loves "fish tape".

Just teasing Del.

The medical profession has several device that some like it would do. The camera devices the use to explore with. They will bend with out side controls so that they can be pushed it to the proper branch junction of say an artery. The scope used to view the colon
