Christmas Trees Are Good for the Environment

12/22/2016 1:56 PM

In case any of you feel guilty about buying a live tree ... don't.

Unfortunately this year we aren't doing a tree ... the puppies would have it destroyed in no time!

My fiancée, who is Australian, sent a pic of her Christmas tree this year:

All it needs now is one of these for that fresh, alpine ambience:

Sorry, I meant to mark the above comment 'off-topic' (5). Can one of the mods do this?

Thanks.

I rated it -5 but I don't think it's really off-topic. I posted it mostly to see what kind of silly posts it would generate! I love your fiancee's tree -- completely appropriate in Australia where Christmas is in the summer.

You could've marked it OT yourself (after posting). In fact the only rating you can give your own post is 5 OT (and you can't undo it!).

Also, don't know if you're aware, but replying to an OT post will automatically mark your post OT, unless you manually un-check the box before posting.

Thanks for the tip!

I noticed that when I mark my own comments OT, it says "Thanks for being honest!" and so I'm wondering: are posts not so marked automatically suspect of being somewhat shady?

Re: Christmas Trees Are Good for the Environment

I grew up on a farm with many acres of trees, both hard wood and Pines and Cedars.

Each Christmas, my older sister, brother and I would walk into the woods in search of the perfect tree. We used Cedar trees because of their symmetry and smaller size.

Now, 60 years later, we live in Arizona with these boys, but we still always get a fresh tree and let them decorate it.

Merry Christmas!

That's a good-looking bunch of young men, Lyn.

A lot of people in the South used cedar trees when I was growing up. I love the fragrance.

Thanks.

Only the youngest one still believes in Santa.

He wants to put a camera aimed at the tree to catch Santa.

"chip off the old block" yes, a little wood humor. "Chip"' "Block"

The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree, does it?

Hear! Hear!

[adjusts hearing aid]

Good call!

(I love it when somebody tells me to act my age: "But how do I do that? I've never been this old before!" )

Sounds like a worthy project to help him with, Then have the apropriate "magic" happen (static and blurred images for a few seconds) followed by the presents underneath the tree.

We are a little spoilt. Our neighbour runs a commercial Christmas tree farm. We get one for free since they have their sign in our property.

I have a camcorder by the TV, I use to record their football games which he pointed out to me would work for that.

I may just try that.

He may also be humoring us too. He has two older brothers.

It's probably got nothing to do with the older brothers.

As long as he maintains the belief, then EVERYONE else is obliged to maintain the generosity and he remains the prime beneficiary.

Smart kid????
