Dayton Vertical Band Saw Model #3Z981

12/23/2016 10:02 PM

To start with, Happy Holidays to All!

Here's my delima, I picked a Dayton 14" wood/metal vertical band saw (model 3Z981) for cheap but I need 2 parts for it. (1) the front table trunnion and (2) the sliding upper wheel hinge/ blade tensioner bracket. Out of frustration, I call Dayton Electric Manufacturing today, talked to their parts department, which passed me to their tech. support, they emailed me an exploded parts diagram for a Dayton model 4YG31 horizontal band saw, which isn't close! I've also checked on Ebay and Amazon but nobody shows dimensions of their parts

So, does anybody have an insight or know of any saw shops that might have these parts "rat holed" and collecting dust?

Thanks SE, those are the parts. After digging thru ebay I did find a pair of table trunnions for $30.00, they don't have the miter gauge but that's easy enough to plot.

As far as the sliding upper wheel hinge/ blade tensioner, I'm going to do as Del suggests and manufacture my own out of steel. Can't believe they would use cheap cast aluminum for parts that are under the stress the tensioner is. Thanks again,

Dan

Sorry, I got no practical help, but it sounds like you have a great project for the holidays.
The top adjuster on my BAS 315 is made from sheet steel, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to fabricte something to do the job.
Good luck and suitable festive good wishes!
Del

Thanks Del, it's turned into a project for sure. I only paid $40.00 (US) dollars for it, so I can put some money it

I've was toying with the idea of making a tensioner bracket out steel and you clinched for me. I've been able to piece the old one back together enough to cut the material for it's replacement. Otherwise, the saw is in good shape, all the bearing are quite and smooth, And, It even has new tyres on it!

Cheers,

Dan
