Now if they can just start throwing every corporate and political scumbag in jail when they get caught. That will be something worth bragging about that will have a positive net improvement society.

Personally I wouldn't mind seeing the strip those greedy scumbags of absolutely everything they own to pay society back for what they do as well.

No, Wait... If they did that the bigger lying cheating scumbags at the EPA and in the government who wrote the questionably valid and highly costly plus restrictive rules the VW guys found a cheat for would be in jail too.

Huh? Corporate scumbag two broke political scumbag 1's crooked power and money grab scam based rules that don't exist in any other developed country with pollution regulations but ours so.... Hmm.

Wrong guys going to jail for beating the bigger lying cheating scumbags at their own game again.

Maybe he could be president Trumps first official presidential pardon recipient? I mean the guys being criminalized for breaking the rules set forth by the agency Trump himself has given every indication he intends to slap around and largely dismantle for crooked activities.

And what is the point? Seriously?

GM intentionally kills people and we didn't see any arrests, massive fines, billion dollar settlements. Who, exactly, did VW fudging the emissions on their diesel cars actually kill? How does that warrant this level of "punishment" while GM, using actuarial justification and corporate profits to "excuse" intentionally killing people gets off with a slap on the wrist?

So killing people for profit is okay, but killing people to perpetrate a huge scam because some people believed it isn't?

Oh, wait, they are the same. But combating "climate change" has a feel-good sound to it. Plus, it lets others judge and dictate people's lives, so carry on.

No, agreed.

That's why tongue is firmly planted in cheek.

I see. I thought "tfpic" was just a letter carry over or misspelled word or some other text box artifact.

Some days it pays to spell things out if context is to be understood.

What!? That is not even close to a valid argument. Between container ships, aircraft, coal fired power stations, and large industrial complex emissions, VW diesel powered cars account for zilch in comparison. They don’t even come close to the emissions from trucks and construction equipment let alone claim that they kill people (which GM did knowingly, intentionally, and for profit).

Yeah? It's still like saying, "I only murdered a little bit compared to so and so."

If you swallow all the propaganda.

I have to give up my Durango due to emission BS and IT RUNS GREAT!

If it weren't for the lousy mileage, I'd almost be really upset.

The same happened with the old Impala back in HS as well as the Sportsman cargo van.

Vehicles that run well should be allowed to run. That's better for the environment then scraping it to meet EPA standards.

EPA: "Sorry, your car is worth less than the cost of repair."

Driver: "It doesn't need repair. It runs great. It has for years."

EPA: "Not according to the little yellow 'check engine' light."

That's where it pays to live in a place (or at least have your vehicle you drive registered to one) where people still take an active enough interest and part in their governing bodies to prevent such idiots and their ideas from ever gaining enough foothold to implement such nonsense.

We don't have such EPA issues here in ND because the general population still puts an active effort into making sure such crap never becomes an enforceable rule here. Nobody here is going to legislate such actions into effect in our state if they ever want to keep their jobs.

In fact, most who get elected here tend to put an active effort into preventing any stupid counterproductive federal level rules from being enforced to any degree (hence the reason we don't have a vehicle emissions enforcement agency or ever require one for any of our general public and never have and likely never will).

As far as we are concerned, using the ND vehicular emissions criteria, VW passes with flying colors and sets a new standard of expectation! Improved power, performance, and fuel mileage in a affordable fun to drive diesel package! A+ pass!

I couldn't agree more!

Illinois is famous for running businesses and people out of state to escape the regulatory BS, but that doesn't mean I don't love it here. I've run several successful businesses here without issue and there's more to come.

All of the regulatory BS is easy compared to dealing with lawyers, and they're inescapable!

Give me five years or so before I become je in ... Some other place..

I'll pack my peeps and find something new.

Re: FBI Busts VW

To drag this one back up - there was an intersting article in a UK paper the other day with the history.

It said VW set it up so the low-NOX mode lasted 23 mins, because the off-road test lasts 22 mins. What puzzles me is why this mode is switched off. If low-NOX is achieved (as I understand it is) by urea injection, the kit must be in place, so the only difference is in operating cost, and urea isn't expensive. If it's done by using a low-performance mode, it would need to be something drastic to reduce NOX by something like 10x. I'd have thought drivers would notice the car suddenly going much better after 23 mins, and put 2 and 2 together.

Am I missing something?
