Keeping Car Doors From Freezing Shut

11/23/2005 10:30 AM

It's early winter in the Northeastern U.S. - and that means a mixture of rain of snow. It also means frozen car doors. Does anyone know how to keep those pesky rubber door gaskets from freezing shut? Is WD40 a good product to use for something like this? I use it to eliminate moisture from car door locks, but am not sure that it adheres well to rubber.

Just use a regular silicon spray on the door rubbers.

Any Dry molly lube will work. Use it here in Buffalo with no trouble.

Use Moovit spray

Moovit works better than wd40 AND is better in all aspects, especially that it is environmentally friendly and won't disolve the rubber.

Rubbing furniture polish on the seals stops them freezing shut.

I was advised of this last year and found it worked (when I remembered to use it!)

I used to smear some silicone grease on a cloth, and rubbed the gaskets with it. Graphyte and glycerine also work fine.
