There are a vast number of variables. For all I know you are referring to IR fusion welds. Or perhaps GTAW orbital.

Not to be cracking wise, but you really need to offer more.

different applications have different requirements (pressure vessel vs. structural vs. pipeline etc.). I would start at ANSI, ASTM and any similar to find appropriate code.

Mr. Chakroborty,

With mig welding, it can be difficult to determine the quality of the welds. In butt welds on tanks, it is possible to use x-ray (either spot or full) to determine the penetration acheived. If you are just welding components together like automotive parts it is more of a visual method. Looking for a good weld bead and blueing of the weld affected area near the weld (when dealing with steel). If you cut a section through your welds and polish and etch the section, you can see the crystaline structure of the weld. Also, performing destructive testing, combined with visual analysis of the welding with lead to an understanding of what "looks strong" based on how it fairs in destructive testing.

No problem. The following line should have read like this (I made a spelling error).

Also, performing destructive testing, combined with visual analysis of the welding will lead to an understanding of what "looks strong" based on how it fairs in destructive testing.
