powdered sodium bicarbonate and a powdered acid, like citric or tartaric.

stable when dry, fizz when wet

If you're packaging your product as a liquid, Europium has your answer and if you're packaging a dry product for the consumer to dissolve in water, Aurizon has your answer.

Buteric Acid is a bad choice.

Who mentioned "Buteric acid"? And, just what is "Buteric acid"? Or, did you mean "Butyric acid"? Outside of the bad odor, what do you feel is the problem with the use of Butyric acid in a food product? It is a naturally occurring acid in butter and some cheeses, is produced by the bacteria in the human intestinal tract as a product of the fermentation of various fibers, and is a common ingredient in various homeopathic remedies. And, will be "de-natured" in its reaction with bicarbonate of soda when water is added to dissolve the dry mixture.

since it is a liquid below 0C, you will end up with a paste with limited water accessibility.

thanks for your replys guys, ill be more specific with what i want to do, i have noticed that if you add a small amount of liver salts or alka-seltzer to ground-bait when fishing,if this combination is placed in a pva bag that dissolves in water when the contents hit bottom and get wet they fizz spreading the bait over a wider area ,so hence the need for a non toxic, drug free dry powder! also how would it be possible to press it into tablet form to delay the reaction?,last question whats the cheapest alternative and where could i get it in the uk in mabey 10 kg volume, many thanks again for your imput,,,jezzy

Use 2 different boiley presses! First the fizz agent in the smaller press to get a ball of fizz! Then half fill the second press with bait, place the fizz ball in the middle of the bait and cover with more bait, now press the second ball! cover in spray pva glue! Have you thought about sherbet for the fizz agent? Down at the Broadlands Estate, the carp went mad for sherbet flying sauces! I'm sure you could buy sherbet in most wholesale bakeries!

Here is the background on the stuff!

Where are you fishing? and what for?
