Cable loss,, low VHF vs Composite?

09/04/2007 4:17 PM

I need to bring in a video feed from a remote location. I'm wondering which would yield the best signal at the other end?

If I was to send the signal out from a VCR using the channel 3 or 4 normal output, and whatever power level that happens to be,,

or

use the composite outputs, at what ever power level they happen to be.

The VCR and the monitor would be easily over 100 feet from eachother,, maybe more,

Using the composite output distances up 300 feet should be OK with use of a good quality RG59 or RG6 coax. The quality of the picture will be better using the composite output in the end.

You should research the various makes of cable types RG cables with the proper impedance and look at the stat sheets for frequency and the corresponding attentuation per 100ft. The cables with the least attentuation for your frequency would be best. Also, there are inline amplifiers that can be installed to 'boost' your signal allowing greater signal at greater distances. Most of this stuff you should be able to pick up at your local Radio Shack or electronics store. If you decide to get some high quality cabling with very low attenuation you may have to order them online or through Graybar or similiar supplier.
