Hi Def Underwater Image Transmission

12/24/2017 7:32 AM

Several years ago,I read about a new method of wireless transmission of high definition underwater images, using a breakthrough sonar generator that used a laser to generate frequencies previously impossible.I cannot find any info on this on line.Has anyone else heard about this technology?

Eagle? Can you work your magic on this?

Thanks in advance for any and all help on this.

I cannot connect to the first link,it shows up as "insecure" but I did connect with the other 2.

The links are interesting, but not exactly what I was looking for.

The article I read used lasers to create sonar that was beyond the range of mechanical transducers of the time.

It may in fact be related to the airborne lasers that create cavitation bursts mentioned in one of your links, but it had greater range, however I do not know which came first.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback on this.

Possibly this is what you are thinking of:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/2009/05/26/laser-explosions-could-let-subs-communicate-underwater.html

Laser pulses from aircraft can be used as a sound source to generate a pulse of sound in the water that hydrophones (sonobuoys) in the water can receive. The reflections from underwater objects can then be processed.

I did a sloppy search in the newly expanded and improved GlobalSpec reference collection and found this and this. The collection indexes articles from the 360 websites and includes abstracts of articles in IEEE's xPlore collection, among other content. We think, although we haven't confirmed, that IEEE members can access full-text articles, not just abstracts.

I found another link today,I had forgotten about this posting till recently. This is fro 2018,so the system may be much more advanced that this article shows.

Note:The military is usually 10 years or more ahead of the civilian technology released to the public.
