Oil Surge Relay In A Transformer

09/20/2007 1:38 AM

i am dealing with 2000 kva 33kv/ 415 v transformer on load tap changer. above the OLTC there is a oil surge relay connected to the conservator. the VCB for H.T. side does not have a interlocking for this relay to trip or give a alarm for any malfunctiong in the OLTC. can i use it with the BUCHOLZ relay interlocking? please suggest

Th realy you are related in your request is the OLTC Safety Valve.

It is recommended that the following equation be obeyed:

Relay trip = Xformer Buchholz.Xformer Safety Valve.OLTC Bucholz . OLTC Safety valve . other protections associated with the transformer

Kind regards

This relay is considered as a gas relay for the OLTC chamber. Its function is as follows:

- initiates an alarm in case of gas accumulation inside the OLTC chamber;

- trips both HV & LV breakers of the transformer in the event of sudden increase in the gases inside the OLTC chamber.

Accordingly, the contacts of this relay can be used for alarm and tripping applications.

The tripping contacts of transformer protective devices (electrical & mechanical), are to be connected together in parallel to hit a Common Lockout Trip Relay (Hand-Reset Type), which in turns trips and lockout both HV & LV breakers. The lockout relay is a high speed trip relay, in addition, it provides the tripping, interlocking, and alarm schemes with the required NO/NC contacts.
