Mini Water Heater Install Complete

08/18/2018 12:43 PM

Well it's all hooked up and working, this has cut waiting for the water to heat up to just 2 sec....love it....The main water heater is around 50 ft away and I used to have to wait for what seemed forever....not to mention the water wasted waiting for it to heat up....

The 2.5 gal tank makes all the difference...it has a knob for temperature adjustment, and I have added an 18" ABS drain pan and water alarm for any problems...imo these should be standard equipment for situations where there is a long run from the water heater to an often used sink...You do lose some storage space, but let's face it, you don't really need most of that stuff so close at hand anyway.....

That puts a "happy" feeling into the old adage of "...being in hot water."

Right!

Try to convince my wife of that!

Mine looked exactly like that.... I put just the 'essential' stuff back, and put the rest in a box and slid it in the opposing cabinet bottom, I have an island that opposes the sink....just have to slide out the box...I'm lucky that I just moved in and haven't filled up all the cabinet space yet.....but it's close...moving has a way of clearing out the dead wood, so to speak...but it grows back fast.....

When did you sneak into my house and take that picture of the cabinet under my kitchen sink? I guess this explains where that bottle of silver polish went.

I'm thinking it is a universal trait among all kitchen owners. The space under our bathroom vanity looks the same. And, don't even get me started about the hall pantry.

In the interest of fair play, my work bench has multiple layers of tools on it.

I commend your honesty! I'd clean out under our sink but I'm afraid I'll find such disgusting stuff I'd probably catch a dread disease.

What's the brand of the mini water heater and how does it produce heat? Where can we purchase it from?Looks like same brand as my treadmill.

And second question,I don't see any connection to the drain for the safety release T/P valve!

Thanks

It's a Bosch electric water heater....and the pressure relief valve dumps into the aux drain pan which has an audible water alarm...

50 + - psi house pressure will fill drain pan in about 3seconds, alarm goes off, you come home hours later, very very wet floors . The home warrantee they sell, covers a split tank or pop-off valve, no labor, no water damage. This is an electric water heater which means a 115 volt 30 amp element "in" the tank. They do corrode often and sometimes completely fail, which Will electrify the water.(hope the breaker trips) In the long run these types of water heaters will cost you way way more money and heart ache than it you left well enough allone. Water heaters are put in mechanical rooms or garrages for a reason. Don't waste water...use it. Also, the advertising they use is pure china propoganda, use professional trained plumbers as much as possible.

Several years ago I read an article about energy efficient homes. The designers put a small water heater beneath the kitchen sink and and in however many bathrooms the house had. This saves water and possibly heat, if the presence of the extra heater means you could keep the main water heater turned down a bit. I thought this was a genius idea -- same thing as I've seen in older English homes, where smallish water heaters near the sink or tub were turned on when needed.

I really expected to see this idea take off. I guess tankless water heaters provide the same kind of energy and water savings while getting hot water where it's needed, but a retrofit like Solar Eagle's strikes me as a very good idea. We have (extremely) socially conscious friends in CA who, during the recent drought years, faithfully collected the water they ran until the hot water showed up and used it for cleaning, watering plants and so forth. That was a LOT of work for people old enough to have been part of the original hippie contingent.

I'm curious if the feed to this tank comes from the hot water supply line under the sink or a cold water supply. And does it feed your dishwasher?

It feeds from the hot water line, otherwise you would run out of hot water rather quickly....The dishwasher also feeds from the hot water line, but instant hot water for the dishwasher is not a concern as it provides it's own heater...

Right.

I took a look at the cost of this unit and its power consumption. Both are very reasonable.

Good job!
