Shameless Product Info-dorsement

08/22/2018 6:23 PM

If you ride, or work on bikes, listen up!

I've begun collecting (mostly) BMX bikes that have been abandoned, lost, purchased by me or donated for the purpose of giving them to grade school kids who can't afford their own bikes, in my fair city. My back, side yard looks like a bike graveyard.

They ALL need some work, tires/tubes/brakes/seats/pedals, etc.

I've been turning them over onto a work bench and wrestling them around. At my age, this is no longer fun.

Finally, I saw this"bike rack work stand" for under $40.00 USD.

I got it today and it is GREAT, and heavy duty enough for other holding tasks also.

Clamp the bike in, raise it, turn it, work on the bike with almost no effort.

And, it folds up.

SE could use one of these for working on his curvilinear room divider.

Think about it, it would cost me more than that just to ship it to him....yet they can make this in China and ship it here for that price....? Something fishy is going on...

They don't make them in Hell. They make them in China and Hell would probably be an improvement in working conditions.

Where is the "good post" button ?

Very noble work Lyn , healthy outdoors activity is good for their health , banishes depression and stimulates their subconscious to move in a forward direction both mentally and physically.

recycling is meritous.

We have something in Australia called "Mens Sheds" where a facility will be donated for use as a community workshop and retired gentlemen go there to do as you mentioned , fixing up bikes for kids , repairing appliances or computers for the elderly , or just sitting and chatting over a cup of tea to stimulate their minds and emotions.

beats sitting around doing nothing in a retirement home...

Men's sheds, what a great idea...but who pays for the upkeep?

Thanks.

I keeps me busy, when I want to be.

The most gratifying thing is that I started a fund raiser on FB, explained what I was doing and the response was overwhelming.

Member, JohnDG, who lives in England, and former member Stewart W from Australia contributed as did other friends and family. I set up a separate bank account to receive the donations and use that money to purchase tires/tubes/seats etc as needed.

I have a personal bike that I ride every day, even in the summer.

We have a cooperative workspace, Heat Sink Labs, in town, but I have everything I need here at home.
