Lost at Sea

09/01/2018 6:33 AM

I remember seeing on tv an article about 3 young men from Georgia,USA,that were aboard a private small boat that overturned off the coast.

The boat was inverted, but still floated but was slowly sinking, and they hung onto it.One of the men decided to swim to a buoy about a half mile away to signal for help.

The other two decided to stay with the boat.

The one on the buoy looked back toward the boat and saw a merchant vessel with Chinese marking stop and rescue the two men.

The man on the buoy was later rescued by the Coast Guard, and interrogated extensively and released.

The other two men were never seen again.

However,a few years later, one of the lost men's family received a phone call from a port in China, but after only a few words, the call was cut off.

They never called back.

I have searched the internet to try to find this article,to no avail.

Has anyone else heard of this incident? If so,please provide me with a link.

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Thanks! That is the article I was talking about.

I have been imagining in my mind what may have happened to the guys:

They could have been taken prisoner by the freighter and used as slave labor, made to work while at sea,and locked away when in port.

The captain of the freighter was old school, declaring that since he saved their lives, their lives belonged to him to use as he pleased.

Just my imagination running wild, but a good basis for a story for someone that can write.

Thanks again for the links!

Sounds very plausible to me...

I would like an escape plot, for the missing men.

They were completely unprepared for what they were doing....the boat was in poor condition, too small to be that far out, imo, no emergency communication or equipment for survival, this was an accident waiting to happen...no mystery, they drowned, they took their survival for granted, not something you can do at sea and get away with for very long....Epirb and PLB don't leave home without it....

A man who is not afraid of the sea will soon be drowned for he will be going out on a day he shouldn't. But we do be afraid of the sea, and we do only be drownded now and again. (JM Synge)

"...will soon be drowned, he said, for he will be..."

A set of dots (...) is customary to indicate an ellipsis.

Everything we say on line is monitored,so look for the series soon,Big Brother is listening.

Satan said his greatest accomplishment was convincing people the he did not exist.

Same with Big Brother,IMHO.

"...Satan said his greatest accomplishment was convincing people the he did not exist ..."

.

Satan said that? Geez, talk about someone needing to be the center of attention. I mean, its a lot of PR work to spin yourself into generally accepted nonexistence, only to hold a press conference boasting of your accomplishment.

.

Perhaps these things are similar. If so, it is a case of life imitating art.

The analogy with Big Brother is there.

If a hundred thousand people claimed BB was real, few would believe it.

Capisce paisan?
