I am not sure a schematic would help you here. I have repaired lots of electronics, if the board is only double sided and you still have the broken piece, it might be possible to solder it back together, if you are very skilled with a soldering iron. A soldering iron and a razer blade to scrape/cut away the solder that you accidental bridge and lots of Patience, can do wonders.

try removing broken part carefully , completly, use magnifying lens , clean the area with iso propyle alcohol watch for broken tracks , components , SMD`s are tiny, you will probabily lose(damage) some. i have no idea of your electronics knowledge identifying gnd , power tracks is must , use low voltage soldering iron , if headphone jack is broken and you don`t expect to get new one solder directly to the pcb , it is recomended to go to service center if you cannot do it your self

Looks like you have a problem there, with the small components so close to the jack.

Why was this designed with such a small amount of board at the jack?

I have the same problem, no sound from right channel because the circuit board cracked at the joint. Yes it is a very very poor design to have such a small section of board support a jack. I am attempting to solder the connections back together right now, and it seems that the circuit board has several layers, not just top and bottom. I cannot tell for certain where the connections need to be made. I am taking 22 gauge insulated wire to create new pathways between the two surfaces, but it is very difficult to tell where to make my connections because the board did that splintering action which caused the edges of the crack to be white powder. The middle appears solid when held up to a light, so I can't be sure. I will take a continuity tester to try and trace pathways. If only someone could post information of the circuitry prior to it being damaged. Say a skilled electronics person could take an undamaged zune apart and identify the connections in the top left corner where the headphone jack is... Microsoft were such assholes to me on the phone and had my zune for 3 months before they sent it back to me un-repaired. I guess they don't want to take responsibility for their poor design. Headphone jacks shouldn't break so easily just from plugging in.
