What is the device used for lifting and rotating mobile LED screens? What considerations are made for wind loading if this is a single shaft?

Sign turret

01/06/2006 2:02 PM

Most rotating signs are on a gear driven turret that is usually atached via a reduction gear drive driven with a low rpm electric motor. As far as wind shear, the turret is large enough to compensate for high winds. These are designed to handle winds in upwards of 60 mph micro burst, and averages of 45mph with out causing much complications. The last sign rigging I was involved with had a base shaft of 24" OD, the shaft was dropped in onto a load bearing with max weight of 2-tons. The main shaft was 16' long and had a counter balance weight of 500lbs. The secondary drive pully on the shaft was 60" and the main pully was 12" on the gear reduction drive case. We used a 10hp, 480V a/c motor. The sign was 10' x 4' x 16" thick. It stood 20' off the ground and could be seen clearly for 1 mile above the other street buildings. I hope this does help you out. Good Luck
