CSA Certification Versus Elect. Inspector's Approval

New kind Hardrock Mining equipment drawing up to 1.5MW of external power, is arriving next week at our mine from Germany. It has no CSA Certification. Upon contact CSA wants some modification done before certification. The Provincial Govt. Mine's Inspector's office appears to want to pass. The mining engineer is not sure; asks my advice as the Focal Point for Electrical sign-off and Safety Standards. I have the task to say comply with CSA's demand or go with the Inspector's discretion. I am mindful of the Workers' Compensation Board in case someone gets hurt by the machine with no CSA stamp.

1. Which is the way to go?
2. Any idea of a Canadian Professional Engineer for Electric Powered Mining Equipment inspection for a 2nd opinion on the CSA idea of modification or his own certification?

CSA vs Inspection

I would go with the electrical inspection first,You say the draw on this thing is 1.5Mw.That's alot o'juice. If the electrical inspector is on the money CSA should listen to his assesment and eventually approve.

Does this equipment come with a DIN, UL, ETL or CE certification? Since it's from Germany, it should have a DIN or CE certification. If not, you might want to find out why. You said it's a new kind of hard rock mining equipment. I know from experience, that it's expensive and it will take a lot of abuse. If this new machine wasn't built to proper specifications, it could end up costing you a lot more money in repair costs and downtime.
