Ball Screw Bellows

10/08/2007 10:06 PM

In my firm (steel plant) there are many ball screws, what type of bellows shall i use which may be cheaper and best? How about using the metallic telescopic bellows than non-metallics. Which one should i prefer. Note, there is no liquid contamination over the ball screws.

Fabric or other suitable bellows should be much cheaper than metal. They usually just attach with hose clamps. Metal once it is bent or dented has a tendancy to maintain that shape and continue further to deform during ball screw operation

First consider what the contamination to the ball screw is. Is the contamination hot

how abrasive is the contamination. How large are the particles will the cut through

on impact. With these question answered you should be able to pick a material to protect the screw.
