Name This Screw Head

04/26/2019 1:15 PM

I'm searching for a tool to fit this screw head.Three lobes, three grooves.

This came from China, but I can't find a name for it.

None of the anti-tamper bits I have will fit it.

Yes, I searched for it, no luck.

Any help and snide comments are appreciated.

Appears to be a type of tri-wing screw....

Thanks. I have a 100 piece security bit set, but the Y bits are, apparently, unique to China.

I have a set of tri-wing bits, but they do not match this head. They just slip out of the head.

The slots in this head are much wider than a common tri-wing head.

Obviously you don't have a complete set....What's the item you're dismantling?

I had to order them. They are not included in American anti-tamper bit sets.

I'm 100% confident that they will.

I'll report back when the arrive, from China.

A steel rod of proper diameter and a grinder, you could make one in a matter of minutes....

Yes I could have.

But there is more than one size and I'd rather have a commercially produced version, hardened to the proper temper.

For less than $4.00 USD, delivered to my door, I'll wait for the set.

I already removed the screws with a six point tool, but that's cheating.

What about replacement screws....and why would you need these type screws on a bicycle?....wouldn't a thief have the correct set?

"What about replacement screws." Don't need them. If I did, I'd go with a more common head.

You give thieves far too much credit. There is far more low hanging fruit for thieves than something with a Y-head screw.

I did find a six point tool that will work, so it's apart.

I will be working on more of these so the order for the correct tool will stand.

Lyn, here's the snide remark you requested:

Some product that was made in China, sold in the West, but Westeners have trouble accessing or maintaining the product, due to special tools not being readily available?

Immediately I wondered, is this a Huawei router you're opening up?

Nothing that sinister, but I did quit using a ZTE phone after the revelation.

Sadly, I believe that unless things change very soon here, there will be just Four Eyes.

Hi Lyn,

You've helped me with many of my problems, so I have a solution that is very fast and you don't have to wait for the tool to arrive from Amazon or Ebay. These are normal household items any family in America has (except the last one, but that only takes a trip to the grocery store). Enjoy!

Here you go:

1. Pour this on the bolt in a diluted mixture with H2O. Repeat as needed. Do not spill this on yourself.

2. Drop some of this stuff on the bolt. May need to be repeated many times. Do not drop the entire bottle.

3. Point the fire side at the bolt and let it get red hot. Don't point the fire side at yourself.

4. If those don't work, try one of these. You can get them in "Specially marked boxes of Cocoa Pebbles cereal - while supplies last!"

Let us know which one worked the best.

No they do not. I'm looking at that set now.

It is not a tri-wing head. It is a Y head. Much different.
