Worlds's End?

08/01/2019 7:27 PM

Exactly who was it that originally said ''The world is going to end in twelve years'' and how long ago was it, based on exactly what data?...

I first heard it on Times Square Fall of '69. The speaker went by the name of Moondog.

Elizabeth Claire Prophet.... Apr 23, 1990

..."Prophet predicted a nuclear war would start on this day, with the world ending 12 years later, leading her followers to stockpile a shelter with supplies and weapons. Later, after Prophet's prediction did not come to pass, she was diagnosed with epilepsy and Alzheimer's disease."...

I don't know if she was the first to say the world would end in 12 years, but it's the first I could find...

..."Polls conducted in 2012 across 20 countries found over 14% of people believe the world will end in their lifetime, with percentages ranging from 6% of people in France to 22% in the US and Turkey. Belief in the apocalypse is most prevalent in people with lower rates of education, lower household incomes, and those under the age of 35.[9][10] In the UK in 2015, 23% of the general public believed the apocalypse was likely to occur in their lifetime, compared to 10% of experts from the Global Challenges Foundation. The general public believed the likeliest cause would be nuclear war, while experts thought it would be artificial intelligence. Only 3% of Britons thought the end would be caused by the Last Judgement, compared to 16% of Americans. Between one and three percent of people from both countries thought the apocalypse would be caused by zombies or alien invasion.[11][12][13]"....

There have been hundreds of predictions that the world was going to end very soon, going back to the year 66, but it seems they were all just crazy people with delusions...no surprise...

What's this?! We're only tied with Turkey! Quickly, tell our Congress to throw even more money at Public School Systems so we can get 23% of the American Public believing in the world ending in imminent apocalypse, and really show Turkey who's boss. Then, we'll really have something we can be proud of. Yeah... (he said sarcastically...)

When the world will come to an end? About 4 billion years from now, when the sun "runs out of gas"

When will our species come to an end? Given our species ability to adapt to changes in our environment, probably a few more million years until we evolve into something else.

When will our current civilization come to and end? Not long from now, given the history of past civilizations.

But this excludes the remote possibility of a stray asteroid or whatever.

At my age, I don't worry. It won't happen in my lifetime.

World's End is in Hingham, Massachusetts.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World%27s_End_(Hingham)

Wilmon Brewer lived in a Victorian house a stone's throw from where I grew up. The Brewer family owned a hundred plus acres of undeveloped land that was a great place to go exploring as a kid. The old stately house appears to be long gone, now replaced by a development of over-priced McMansions. The heirs to the estate probably made a killing on selling off that part of the property. I'm glad the family put much of the property in a conservation easement. He was a writer and somewhat reclusive, but an honorable man.

Re: Worlds's End?

..."Patricia Espinosa stressed in two recent interviews with the Associated Press that climate scientists are saying there’s still a chance to make things right “but the window of opportunity is closing very soon” and the world has 12 years until carbon emissions reach “a point of no return.”"...

This is reportedly AOC's source...but the UN report doesn't say that at all, Espinosa decided to make it appear more dire even then the fudged report, and AOC decided to take that up a notch, you know, because she's an extremist...

Such a specific answer gets a GA from me.

...but I now have to ask if it is time to start requiring politicians to get a license to ''politic'' that can be revoked after they ''broadbrush'' so irresponsibly?...
