Throttle/Choke Assembly

08/04/2019 12:26 PM

I bought a riding mower at a yard sale,at a real deal.

Some of it was disassembled but it appeared all there.

I have been trying to find an image of the speed/choke control bracket assembly, but have been unsuccessful. This is where the choke and throttle cable from the dash is attached at the bottom of the motor under and slightly to the right of the carburetor.I even consulted the Kohler Engine service manual, but it only details the governor and carb linkage adjustment procedure.not the part below that;the bracket that it mounts to.

I could rig something up,but I prefer to do it right.

The engine is a Kohler 27Hp,Model CV740-0040,but this has been retrofitted to a Poulan PRGT48-25,which I believe originally came with a Briggs and Stratton 25 HP motor.

The mower portion should not have any effect on the part I am looking for,but I am including it anyway.

A high resolution exploded view of the assembly would be most helpful.

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks SE.I looked at this image and it did not look like the same thing, but Ilooked at the parts list images you sent, and I think it will work. The ereplacementparts listing for applications only went as high as 19 hp,but I see that part number listed elsewhere to higher horsepower models. ereplacement parts said,vi email that they did not have any info on the 25/27 hp Kohler and could not guarantee the fit.suggested I contact Kohler.I feel like it will work,so I will take a chance on it.

Thanks again!

This as a2002 Poulan, but considering the age,it looks pretty good.

The reason I got it so cheap is it had the Kohler DSAI ignition system on it.It was proven to be a complete failure.Eventually Kohler gave up on fixing it,and reverted back to the old fashioned grandpa magneto coil ignition.I put the old style ignition system on it,and it fired right up,but I have to manually operate the throttle, and no speed governor to prevent over speed,so I have to be careful when testing it.The DSAI was supposed to control timing based on RPM,but it had a very high failure rate. The cam profile and compression were changed on the 27 HP,and the starting timing was increased.I guess it was easier to delay timing electronically than to increase it.As a result, the engine was sometimes hard to turn over when cold, but I solved that problem with a larger automotive battery. They won't honor a warranty unless you give them the model of vehicle that you are buying it for,so I have a 73 Chevy pickup, with a 454 CID engine,so that is what I specified. It really spins that Kohler's tail.Plenty of room in the battery box, with room to spare. It had side terminals, so I put adapters on them. Put brass battery posts on it,so no corrosion problems in the future.I'll keep you posted of my progress. The little mower starter solenoid could not take the heat, melted the post right off,so I replaced it with an automotive starter solenoid. One more problem solved.Murphy has plenty of more surprises up his sleeve,I am sure, but at least they are not the same ones. Eventually,I will prevail.I will probably have a million dollars in a $100 mower, but hey! It's the challenge and principal of the thing.
