Interesting - voltage controlled. Vacuum tubes are voltage controlled, but there is some small current involved. The same could be said for all types of FETs.

I'm thinking the difference here is we're talking about a spintronics switch. Normally you need a magnetic field to sort electrons by spin, and electrically switching means a current.
In this case, you would have a momentary current as you do with FET's or vacuum tubes during the switching process (as the gate or grid is charged) but it just takes a voltage and not a continuous current to keep the switch in one state.

My Wall Switch Needs No Current to Retain State but My Neurons Must Fire When I Flip It
Right. We have had non-volatile memories for a very long time. The headline does the reader a disservice since a switch must have three capabilities. You must be able to switch it, it must retain its state over some time period, and you must be able to read it. Retaining a state over some time period with no current is not enough to justify claiming that a switch "uses no current." Writing it and reading it are required operations and if any of the required three functions uses current then the switch uses current. Journalists should recognize the dangers of using universals (all, every, none, no,..) when they write, especially in their titles and avoid the possibility that someone can produce one counter-example to prove their universal statement is a lie. Otherwise they should be prepared to acknowledge that they deserve the title of bald-faced prevaricator as opposed to reporter and select a new occupation. I guess when politicians believe they can blow off the Bill of Rights as a "living document" rather than as the origin and main contractual source of their perishable, delegated sovereignty then other occupations take the cue.
