Sloppy installations, poor maintenance...Looks like unqualified personnel are working for this company = poor management...

Thanks for the video SE. What's the "Nuke Mars" all about I wonder.

There was a theory at one time that nuking Mars would release a lot of CO2 thus warming the planet...The whole idea is to terraform Mars into a more hospitable planet...Musk has a new theory that might be more acceptable, satellite reflectors..

..."Musk didn't specifically call out Woida's research, but the work ties directly into the reflector concept. Woida published a report in 2007 (PDF link) detailing how a system like this might function. The idea would be to place a series of satellites in orbit that would strategically reflect the sun's warmth down onto the surface of Mars.

"Might make sense to have thousands of solar reflector satellites to warm Mars vs artificial suns," Musk tweeted on Tuesday, suggesting that the best option is still "to be determined.""...

No doubt he wants to be paid for getting all those mirrors out there. That idea makes about as much sense as deflecting a lot of asteroids to impact mars, thus adding energy and mass and atmosphere. Either way, trillions of dollars would be spent.

I think the deflecting an asteroid into the planet would yield much greater insight as well as continuing the quest to learn how to control asteroids, we might need that tech for survival some day...It would make more sense to me to increase the mass of the planet to hold an atmosphere in the first place...of course this could be risky if something went wrong...but what a great video!

I agree, but the cost would be monumental as I said above. Nuking it would be far cheaper, but would contaminate the existing atmosphere unless it was far below the surface and had something above the blast to contain it. I don't think one nuke would be enough. This would also antagonize the existing Martians that live underground.

a planet needs a liquid core to hold an atmosphere. Mars once did. It has since cooled and in doing so lost its "magnetic north" and the solar winds stripped the atmosphere long ago.

this would make as much sense as those that believe throwing money towards "global warming" whereas somehow it is going to change the weather on earth. is there a thought to the magnitude in size of mars vs. a mirror satellite. thousands will be like a drop in the ocean, millions would still do nothing but waste billions of dollars.

Perhaps we could use solar mirrors to redirect the radiation plaguing the eart as GW to Mars for a worthy purpose.

It does seem kind of sketchy, Elon buying the ailing SolarCity, two of whose directors are his first cousins.

Good information Rixter. I didn't know about the cousins. It seems Musk is too busy with other projects or just doesn't care about solving the problems of the solar panels. I will not be renting any of his rentals. He can't solve his problems by tweeting.

Musk's two cousins being on the board of Solar City, the company acquired by Tesla (the company Musk runs) seems pretty sketchy when phrased that way.

With a little more information it doesn't seem quite as nefarious.

The two cousins were more than just board members. The brothers were founders of Solar City. Solar City was apparently dreamed up by the two brothers during a discussion with Musk at Burning Man.

Musk who was Solar City's Chairman of the board, along with the two brothers recused themselves from voting onthe acquisition of Solar City by Tesla.

If mirrors can be placed in space to warm a planet, then put them in place for earthly use.

The next glacial period is only ???? Years away.

Global cooling with each mega asteroid.. volcano etc..

We have no clue what that will bring. Or when.
