Polyurethane coatings-literature, info

10/18/2007 3:43 PM

Hy, could someone help with some source of free literature about polyester-polyether polyurethane based(also polycarbonate polyurethane based), difference between components in solvent and water, mono and bi-component compounds; physical and chemical properties. For experts: how to use Bayer's(most known) products I'm looking for.....Also rigid foam without memory, thikness of max. 1-2mm....

There are a number of available sources of info. Bayer, Huntsman, Degussa etc publish many brochures on the chemistry of various isocyanates and the urethanes made from them. Bayer, for example, sells most polyol types, including polycarbonates, as well as most diisocyanates and polyisocyanates. There are also a number of associations, such as Polyurethane Manufacturers Association (PMA) where you'll find knowledgible people with years of experience in PUs. I have an extensive history in making all kinds of polyurethanes since the early 1960's. We currenly make extremely biodurable PUs of many types using polycarbonate polyols. Also look into where the various soft-block components are used, as for instance environmental exposure, fungi resistance, UV and thermal resistance, etc. One can catagorize the best areas of use for each family of soft block members, as well as the hard block contributors. Applications range from tiny amounts of drug eluting biodurable coatings applied to cardiac stents to aircraft coatings, furniture and floor coatings, extrudable and castable polyurethanes, polyurethane water dispersions, blocked isocyanate prepolymers, etc.

Chemically linked PEster-PEthers are well known as elastomers and there are a lot of patents for such polymeric compounds. Also, if intrested in their physical blends, literature is available on Google. To the best of knowledge, the following link compares Polyethers and Polyester-urethanes in terms of its propeties, check whether that is helpful or not in ur case
