remote controlled hydraulics

10/20/2007 6:03 AM

This is for your hydraulic fans . I want to control hydraulic cyclinder action (up -down) remotely. Some kind of electrical controls mounted inside an elevator. Radio or hard wired ok. Any ideas? Least expensive as possible. Thanks! James

Enter new guessing game.

You have a hydraulic elevator?

It is big enough for one or more persons.

Load is unknown but not particularly pertinent.

Electrical controls with interlocking relays etc. to prevent operation with door(s) open and to prevent door(s) actuation when in motion. Hard wiring is the norm from inside of elevator or from a remote control station in visual range.

James,

What is the application of the cylinder for?

What is the Distance?

(I designed a wireless control system for transit mixers and many wired remote systems for "Man-Lifts").

I have the hydraulic lift boom from a small Toyota forklift. (HEAVY!!!) I will mount this in a vertical angle and use it as an elevator. I have an opening to the living area above the basement. I plan to mount the pump (with small electric motor) and the hydraulic oil tank (20 gal.cap.) in the basement. I need a total lift of 8. ft. I need a wired or wireless control mounted inside the cab and another control up inside the house. I will , of course, provide all the necessary safety switches.

James,

OK! The forklift cylinder is a "Single Acting Cylinder".

Pump it in to extend, let it out and gravity brings it back down.

A single acting solenoid valve, a flow control valve and a relay to turn on the pump will be the basic system.

You can use a self retracting , reel type, extension cord and a 3 position momentary toggle switch to handle the electrical control end of the system.

Mount the toggle and the end of the cord to the "elevator" and the reel, relay, valves and pump are mounted near the bottom of the cylinder.

If you have a basement, I would mount everything in the basement. You can use sailboat pulleys to guide the cord from the reel to where it would be traveling through the floor. I would also make sure my solenoid valve had a manual over-ride so that the lift can be lowered manually in case of a power or equipment failure.

PS. I would assume that that you are not lifting people as my lawyer would have a fit.
