Are the flat surfaces stealth technology to evade police radar?

Only if you add the secret surface coating, a pricey option to be sure....

Not quite bullet proof. The shatterproof windows shattered when they threw a steel ball at them.

No they didn't.....they break, but don't shatter like regular car windows...

The windows were touted as unbreakable. They obviously are not. Why the truck window broke but not the stand alone glass demonstration is presently speculation. What intrigues me about the Tesla glass is that vehicle glass is a regulated item in most countries. To me it looks like this break meets existing US standards and nothing more.

They think micro cracks from repeated testing led to the failure...seems plausible, the ball was bouncing off the window before...

in the drop test, the window was not rigidly supported, the clamps are left open (in the picture that is displayed). This gives the glass room to flex and dampen the force.

Once the window is in the vehicle, it is in a ridged frame and cannot flex which ultimately fractures the glass.

Look at the video further down,, from Elon's twitter feed, they are testing the very same windows in the very same truck...so while your declaration may be valid, it is not relevant in this instance....

"Tesla Cybertruck reservations hit 146,000"

Looks like another hit....

..."Musk tweeted Saturday that 146,000 Cybertruck orders have been made so far. Of those, 41% picked the most expensive tri-motor option and 42% of future customers chose the dual motor version. The remaining 17% picked the cheapest single-motor model....

...Tesla said it will offer three variants of the cybertruck. The cheapest version, a single motor and rear-wheel drive model, will cost $39,900, have a towing capacity of 7,500 pounds and more than 250 miles of range. The middle version will be a dual-motor all-wheel drive, have a towing capacity of more than 10,000 pounds and be able to travel more than 300 miles on a single charge. The dual motor AWD model is priced at $49,900.

The third version will have three electric motors and all-wheel drive, a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds and battery range of more than 500 miles. This version, known as “tri motor,” is priced at $69,900."...

This looks like it might appeal to Hummer drivers with more money than brains.

It may well become popular with the masses too. Time will tell.

Looks like the mutant love child of an ElCamino and a Delorian. Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder, I guess. I would need more than a few, before this would look good.

The product demo was a hoot.

I am not even sure it qualifies as Butt ugly.

i don't think Rivian is worried at this point.

I don't see contractors being able to justify this as a proper work truck.

Where can you put an interior or exterior ladder rack?

Perfect.. it can be used to tow the F-150 full of tools and ladders.

I'd say an electric F-150 is on its way.

Re: The New Tesla Pickup Truck

I read last night that the truck body does not have a frame as we know it. The "sheet metal" is a hardened stainless that can't be stamped as it breaks the dies. The metal has to be scored and folded or cut and welded. This supposedly reduced the weight substantially as it eliminated the frame and the attachment hardware, I guess taking unibody to a new level.

So that does beg the question, how does one fix it after a collision? Certainly not going to massage panels back into alignment or shape.

One has to admire his willingness to take risks; agree or not with his choices, he's at least doing something. The old saying.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way.

How will the insurance deal with it?

Imagine trying to fix that fit and finish.

It reminds me of the cheap version of toy metal cars. All one body with the wheels snapped on.

Ding? Here's a new $1,800 panel.

Sustainable?

It's going to be interesting to see how they work out. Or not

Re: The New Tesla Pickup Truck

Well if it doesn't bend, then it just breaks...you can just weld it back up and grind it out..and if it's bullet proof it probably can sustain everyday bumps with no damage...So the only body repairs necessary would be major collisions, and I'm thinking the other vehicle will sustain the lion's share of the damage...and cost of repair as well...

Ah yes, to hell with the occupants. If the truck survives a 30 to 0 MPH impact into an immovable object without a scratch then all is right in this world.

I know that is not what you said but it is how I read your implication.

Please put some more thought into your comments.
