The amount of aerosol droplets generated by normal speech is shown in this video:

Laser shows droplets formed during speech

This sheds light on why a facemask makes sense, both from the send and receive actions.

Wearing a mask without eye protection makes no sense...the eyes are just as susceptible as the nose and mouth....

The reduction of sending droplets during normal speech is the primary goal of a mask. The video and article clearly shows that it works. I do wish they had provided some spatial dimension clues in the video though.

Your point is well taken, but I would have considered the "th" sound to be a digraph rather than a diphthong.

Pedantic to be sure, but that's what we do here.

NEWS FLASH FROM 2025:

A convenience store was robbed early this morning.

Witnesses were not able to identify the suspect because he was not wearing a mask.

A local police department had all of their toilet paper and toilets stolen in a bold overnight theft by workers posing as plumbers.

The thieves left no evidence behind, no DNA or finger prints.

At the present time,the police have nothing to go on.
