Mileage Randomizer

11/05/2007 6:47 AM

I'm looking for a program that will take a predetermined number of miles on a vehicle and disperse it randomly across a period of days (365) with a preset limit per day of no more than sixty (60) . It may allow for days with zero (0). The possible additional of non-mileage days based on the U.S. holiday schedule. The output format would be ideally in the form of: year - date - day - mileage with monthly totals.

Any takers ?

Anything in the can already ?

We may could work out a small incentive.

More or less. Its about actual mileage spread across fuel consumption and time period. Besides, I'd rather not be driving or worse yet one of my job site foremen or his assistant, driving one of my F350 4x4 extended cabs lifted 10" with 37's on the hub with a tandem wheeled trailer full of concrete blocks or such stuff @ more than 10K lbs trailer weight. Visualize him writing his mileage in the log as he pulls up behind your Prius at a stop light looking down, while writing- as they do now. So ask yourself would you rather I have them write in their mileage log or watch their driving and keep track of gross mileage - they are full time work trucks. No one takes my trucks home.

if they cant stop smile as you go under. . .

But hey if its too much of a challenge just let me know - I understand being a hardware electronics type myself, that you squishy software guys have more excuses than actual programs- <<Tongue in Cheek>>

They are standard Ford F350's the closest thing to a tach is a tach and the mileage trip setting has proven unreliable due to user error - However I make an attempt to record the mileage on Sundays that takes time which I don't have and I don't have time to babysit foremen. I have fuel receipts and can approximate mileage based on that but why not just automate it based on a three second check of mileage on Sunday morning on the way to church. It should be stated I depreciate my trucks and write off maintenance and fuel - not claim mileage on taxes.

I would use Excel if you are not a progammer. If you can program then obviously use the language you are familiar with. If you want to acquire it ready-made, contact me directly.

Re: Mileage Randomizer

I wanted to see if there was a canned solution - excel has too many limitations for me on my side. I'm really looking for a brainless application with small overhead and no requirement for thought on the front end. User impervious or as close at that gets in the K.I.S.S. tradition. As a small business man running several businesses and fixing and designing hardware for Boeing in my main job I don't have time to guide my guys and gals to use it and the simpler the better. I also have a budget restraints. To be honest if excel will do it within my required specs ill jump on it. I had overlooked my accounting friend.

Thanks

Filling out your mileage log for tax?

You can use VBA(macro in excel) to do that. One cell for start date, one for total mile, one for daily max, one for total # of days.
