Lathe Machine

08/12/2020 1:04 AM

The feed rod is powered by a set of gears from the head stock. It rotates during operation of the lathe and provides movement to the carriage and the cross-slide by means of gears, a friction clutch, and a key way along the length of the rod. The lead screw is used for cutting threads accurately. Closing a split nut around the lead screw engages it with the carriage.

if this is so, I have a couple of questions:

1. does it mean the feed rod and the lead screw have separate knobs (may be total of 4 knobs) for motion of the carriage and the cross slide for both operations ???

2.when threading how the auto feed for the cross slide is given ??
