Joint / Seam Distance - Fabrication

Hi, anyone there able to advice me where can i locate the long-seam-to-seam, welding pad to piping long-seam or circ-seams distance to for power piping, process piping and gas distribution piping and also opening in vessels in the ASME or others international codes, please.

You should offset the shell circumferential seam & piping cirseam by at least 50 mm for better joint efficiency.

Preheat is essential for both joints.

for the better consistent of the joint it should be 90 degree apart.But as per the ASME B31.3 the minimum distance between two seam should be 150 mm.

For all these queries you simply refer ASME Section B31.1 Edition 2007 and ASME Section VIII Division 1. For welding parameters ASME Section XI.

You can also clear us which type of design, location and processes u r goin to apply on vessel.

Hi All,

As normally happen in the fabrication and erection / installation of piping works in a refinery or pulp and paper industrial. e.g. pipe to pipe (ERW or SAW welded seamed pipe), branch connection to pipe seam and to pipe-pipe joint, and branch connection with padding plate near pipe-pipe joint and pipe seam, the distance between pipe-pipe joint for the seam distance etc.
