what is the binder used in casting silicon carbide

Hi Guest,

The only Silicon Carbide I know is used in Elements for high temperature furnaces. My guess would be that a graphite baste paste with Quarts crystals would be used that is then baked to achieve the product.

What do you mean "Casting"? Silicon Carbide is a non-metallic crystal, used as an abrasive or a metallurgical fuel. It is not something you melt and then cast.

Perhaps the proper question should have been what is the common binder and mixing solution when mixing and potting a silicon carbide mixture.
