A15 vs G7 40-Watt Appliance Bulbs?

Anyone know the difference between an "A15" and a "G7" 40 watt appliance bulb? Why would you use one over the other?

A- Arbitrary spherical shape tapered to narrow neck (most common bulb shape)

G- Globe shape (decorative applications)
