Sounds like a hard drive failure, time to start digging for those emergency back up disks.

Try resetting the bios. If that don't work hope you have backups.

(it worked on my HP)

Please power off and after 10 sec please turn power on again. If it is same error, please repeat 5 times until ok. If not please take your Dell laptop to "Dell service center" or where you bought it for replace new HDD

OK Pull the battery and make sure the power cord is disconnected. Look under the laptop you will see a symbol for a hard drive ( It looks like a cylinder with three plates ) with a screw next to it. Removed that screw and pull the the hard drive loose. IT will slide out like a PCIMCA card wait about a minute and slide it back in. If it doesnt read the hardrive after that the drive is dead you can get a new one from price watch cheap.

Well ?? Did that actually work? It's possible that you got lucky and a poor pin connection caused it to not read or maybe not even "spool up".

The power supplies crap out on laptops frequently because the "cheapy" little fans in them stop first.

Soda-pop, coffee and tea also do WONDERS to laptops...hehe....

Re: Problems With Dell Laptop

I encountered a similar problem with a friend of mine's laptop. He came into the office today very worried because his laptop was completely dead. He told me that he stored the laptop behind the seat of a pick-up truck and something might have broken because of the vibration. My first thought was that the hard drive was not connecting properly. I disconnected the power cord, removed the battery and the cover on the HD, took that screw out and pulled the HD out. Then I waited a minute and replaced everything and the Laptop was fixed! It seems the logical way to start there before you spend any money on profesionals.

My question is now if it was a bad connection or did the waiting a minute before I put it back reset something in the computer to be able to read the drive again. ?

I'm not really sure... Every Sunday, this whole just kinda opens. As I walk down the steps, there are a number of naked girls hanging upside down. And the sermon is incomprehensible! If I had to guess, I think it sounds something like Latin read backwards. Odd.

Check your bios settings for hard disk settings , detect it and save the settings and start it , and try as gues mentioned it by removing and again attaching it , if your hard disk has been detected and still this error perists , boot through cd and see for disk error for bad sectors , try formating and installing new system again , possiblity of boot sector virus infected , theses are check outs you can perform before moving for proffesional service or replace the hard drive

You may not need to format. Just boot with the appropriate windows Cd and when prompted, press R to repair. Then navigate to the drive containing your OS and type CHKDSK /P. This will check the disk error and of done twice or thrice it will correct the boot error completely without u lossing anything. It has worked for me several times. If it did not work.... may be you need another disk.

If you consistently get this error, your hard drive is bad. You need to replace it. If you are worried about lost data files, there are several forensic disk drive specialists out there that can recover some of your data for a price.
