"NASA Detects Lattice Confinement Fusion
A team of NASA researchers seeking a new energy source for deep-space exploration missions, recently revealed a method for triggering nuclear fusion in the space between the atoms of a metal solid.

It does seem to be a more workable design, well, if it works that is....It boggles the mind to consider how much has been spent on research and experimentation over the years, but I guess that's the price of progress... It's all about timing as the landscape of what's possible changes over the years as new materials and methods are developed... ..It's all about electric motors, batteries, and charging efficiency now...If we could unlock the power of the atom in a safer cleaner way, that seems like the Holy Grail to me...

Tritium is the reason there is an accelerated interest in going back to the moon.
There will eventually be mining facilities there, probably by controlled robotics. Eventually, the appearance of the moon will change because of the colonies there, enclosed in geodesic domes that reflect light. From earth,it will sparkle like a diamond in the sky. This may take a century or more, but $$ has always attracted mankind, and it will continue. It would not be profitable to bring back gold if the moon was made of it,but Tritium is a different story.
I think mining asteroids for precious metals will become common place also.
I was just born too soon to see this.

Renewed interest in going to the moon is unlikely to be about tritium mining. Tritium has a half life of a little over 12 years. A half life of 12 years is insufficient to allow much buildup in the moon's regolith.
What you were likely thinking of is helium 3. It is clamped that there is significant buildup of helium 3 in the moon's regolith. Helium 3 also has some desirable properties as say component of fusion fuel.
