Water valve type & size

11/15/2007 4:59 PM

What will be the size of a valve to use in pipieline of 10 l/min flow and pressure drop of 4.5 bar. Initial pressure of the line is 7 bar and required pressure on other side of the valve is 2.5 bar. preferably Globe valve if it is ok !

You need this form of the Bernoulli Equation:

dP/rho + (v12/2)*[(A1/A2)2-1] + g * dy = 0

Where:

dP = pressure change

rho = fluid density

v1 = initial fluid velocity

A1 = initial pipe area

A2 = final pipe area

g = acceleration due to gravity

dy = change in height

I'm assuming you know your initial pipe size. You know your flow rate, calculate initial velocity, solve for final pipe size.

Yes, globe valves are usually used for throttling applications.

10l/min is a relatively small flow, and 15mm ø piping (1/2" in the old money) is suitable. A globe valve in this size is an off-the-shelf item and of relatively low value. Choose a stock item and install it. Don't worry. Be happy.

AquaSuper is a manufacturer of float valves specifically for your needed application. Using Water, providing the information above, we would recommend a ¾" valve.

We offer the 350MTP in a 3/4" for: $45.00 with a 5 year warranty.

Feel free to check us out @ www.aquasuper.com

Or call us @ 305-716-7694 (Miami FL)

Thank you.

1st Calculate the nominal pipe size of pipeline.

2nd The size of valve shall be the same size of pipeline.

3rd If the function of the valve is on/off, I prefer to use gate valve since it will be normally opened and its pressure drop will be minimum.

If the function of the valve is controlling the pressure or flow rate, I prefer to use globe valve.
