How To Identify A Powder-Coated Paint?

11/19/2007 11:42 AM

I have a product (its a BBQ for cooking) and I need to know if the BBQ has been painted with paint or if it was powder coated.

Is it possible to identify VISUALLY the difference between the two paint systems? If it is not possible to tell the difference visually, what is the simplist method to find out?

Also, I am trying to get a general rule of thumb about paint thinckness. Is it true that powder coated paint is approxiamtely 20 to 30 mircons thick? And paint is approximately 40 to 60 microns thinck?

Thank you

In fact I also had the same question in this forum but in a different way. I heard that all those BBQ and cooker items are normally enamel painted. So I posed the question " What is enamelling & how it is done?"

Unfortunately I did not get a proper response.

Of course my interest was to manufacture BBQ stoves

This will be vitreous enamel, other paint systems would not withstand the heat of the BBQ. The process is described here.

why would you want paint inside a BBQ in the first place. Whether it is powder coated or not? Stainless steel rules....... for pro`s that is.

True SS rules but hurt the purse too....

Idea is not to powder coat inside BBQ but outer part of it for better appearnce.

Still thanks for your contribution.
