Anyone please suggest me what's the best type of windings connection between primary and secondary of transformer 20kV/0.4kV 2.5MVA to serve the load VSD? and what are the concerns?
Delta primary and wye (or star) secondary is what I'm used to seeing. I believe the reason for the wye secondary is to provide a safety ground via the transformer neutral. There may be other reasons.
I'm not familiar with a VSD load. Can you provide more detail?
By VSD I'll assume you mean Variable Speed Drive, which could be AC or DC. In either case, joeconed is right, Delta - Wye (star) is the best choice, if for no reason that to keep the voltage potential across the input phases of the rectifier as low as possible. That means the PIV rating can be lower. Many AC drives (VFDs) will specify that they be fed from a grounded Wye system unless modifications are made.
