Domino printer lease and service exchange

11/25/2007 6:03 AM

Hi i have started industrial printing solutions and have been a domino printer tech for over 10 years. Recently i have refurbished several printers and have been thinking of starting a printer exchange program so customers would not have to wait for their unit to be rebuilt. I,m not sure how to charge a core charge that will be credited depending on the condition of the unit without the overall cost being to high say a 1000.00 core and 50% credit if it runs or to just up the unit cost to cover the printers i get as exchange that are junk. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I know i have trouble with my lease printers that are returned those who are not leasing to own often send them back in horrible shape.

Hi guest (please register),

I have been in litho print engineering as an independent for close to 17 years and have recently given it up for a normal paid job.

I found that it has become increasingly difficult to run your own small company. The reasons are not totally clear to me but some are:

1) globalisation means companies grow and spread out and become better at fighting off small competitors by inclusive deals to your shared customer base that you as a small indy cannot match.

2) in view of the above the customers often are global themselves or at least aspiring to that. This means that they might have centralised procurement of out servicing and you will have a big job convincing them of your quality and viability.

3) There are always moonlighters, people that do this work out of hours. they can offer exactly what you do and are always cheaper. Nothing you can do that stops that and the same customer you could get, they can get too.

There are other reasons but you get my drift. I am going to "just do my job" for a while and then see again. For now I am loving it to be able to just come home and not have to worry about all that.

Good luck, if you come back we would like to see a membership name just so we know who we are talking to.

Thanks,

I was interested to see that you were a Domino printer tech. We are just looking at investing in a Domino A200+ system for low volume printing of serial numbers onto an aluminium housing. We are thinking of choosing the Domino printer rather than an equivalent Videojet system but Domino have offered a couple of service contracts at either £69 or £75/month. In your experience are these printers reliable or do they need constant maintenance?

the printers are very reliable and the auto wash feature will be a great asset if you are not running the printer full time. If the printer is not going to be in production 24-7 you should run the unit at least 3-4 hours once a week (dosent need to print just "ready to print" status) also if the printer is not going to be a full time unit i would go with 270ink it does not dry as fast and is not as aggressive as 223 but will be more dependable for you if the printer sits.

Thanks for your comments, they are very useful. The ink that has been recommended to us based on our requirement is 291BK, do you know how that performs?

Hi

The service password is " SERVICE ". In domino printers they do not have option of changing language in A200.

For the language change you need to install software with your required language.
