There are not many standards for pallets, most are 4' x 4' x 4" tall. Racks are adjustable but hold 150# per square ft.

HI There,

The racking suppliers can give you all the specs you need on the racking, and they are all pretty much the same. All have 'light' and 'heavy' versions of the racking they sell.

What is far more important is the layout of the warehouse. I have done a few of these with varying levels of support or hinderance from management!

The best source of information regarding effective layouts for the warehouse would be the people working in it (assuming that you already have a warehouse operation)

Who knows better what works and what doesn't, the people who work there day in and day out or someone who does not?

It is in their interests (and yours!) that it be laid out in the way that makes their jobs as quick and easy as possible (who wants to do more work than necessary???)

You ultimately decide on the layout, but you would be wise to seek their advice.....

There are European type pallets with 9 blocks of wood with cross members nailed to them. This allows access for a fork lift from any side of the pallet.

Most of the USA type pallets have between 2 and 4 stringers with cross members nailed to them.

They generally only allow a fork lift to access them fromt he front or back. Buttttttt.... If the stringers have notches in them they may be accessed from the side.

Why don't you start communincating with a pallet manufacturere? Or go to their websites?

What type of forklifts are being used? Turn radius? cpacity? easily adjusted fork width? do they extend forward? Tilt?

If you want a better info you should register, give your area of the world.
