How Can we calculate the Co-ordinates in the field while using Total Station

Can anybody explain me the procedure of calculating co-ordinates with the help of a total station in the field with the help of examples.

You are using a total station without GPS???

You need to backsite a known point like a survey monument. In North America their are survey monuments all over the place, and the location and elevation can be found through survey companies and the government I think. If their is no survey monument near enough you may need to set up a gps unit.
