What is best welding machine for submerged arc welding?

11/28/2007 9:52 AM

What is the best type of welding machine to use when welding 1/8" 312 stainless steel wire with submerged arc in a 2g position. Actual application is weld overlay inside a digester running dual wire approx. 2 inches apart and using the same welding power supply. Is it better to run DC or AC? Constant current or constant voltage? Weld process is good using constant voltage DC but we are looking to improve the cosmetics.

Go to manufacturers like Lincoln and Miller web pages they have contact numbers for tech support and will be glad to help with all your questions and sell you a machine.

I recommend using Lincoln's Bluemax Submerged Arc Flux. In this application, most people would have the leading wire run on DC, and the following wire(s) on AC. Try two power sources. The AC part gives a good mix of cleaning action vs. penetration.
