VPN/Antivirus Help

I have AT&T internet service and they include VPN with the modem/router...I also have Norton anti-virus and included VPN which I am not using now....It seems to me the IP address is just moved around befuddling any tracking of location, also supposedly encrypts information...it does seem to be interfering with some location specific services, but to date has not really been much of an issue...

I switched from the free AVG protection to the Windows 10 antivirus, as soon as it was available, also free. Maybe 15 years accumulated of both. Never had a problem using either, scans & updates on a regular basis. I keep the machine software up to date, always making sure I get all of the software updates, that appears to be more critical than antivirus, perhaps. Also practice good hygiene with unknown links and other emails of unknown or suspicious origin. I don’t leave the machine on and unattended for long periods, shut it down if not using it.
