In the field of electrical engineering and computers, it certainly is a top contender for the most significant development of the 20th century.

In biology/medicine, I'd say CRISPR should be considered for this title. I fact just about any of the Nobel Prize topics should be considered a significant development for their fields.

Not the MOSFET, but maybe the plain J-FET or transistor. I would go with the microprocessor. Social media made a big change, but not for the better. Bitcoin doesn't score either.
