Helix muscle motor

08/28/2022 12:28 PM

The University of Texas has developed a muscle from twisted, helical yarn that is 100's of times stronger than bio-muscle,and much quicker.

Could they one day replace combustion engines or electric motors?

The development is in the infant stage right now,but imagine what it could be in 50 or 100 years.

Could the Wright brothers imagine modern jets or rockets?

It seems like it would be a natural for robot muscles.

That is one of many things they are considering.

When they develop the ability to parallel the "Muscles" they could power vehicles.

Just think, a rubber band wind up toy like I had as a kid in real life size.

Buick experimented once with a rubber drive shaft to reduce vibration.

It reduced vibration, but after accelerating it reversed direction more or less instantly.

You still have to get energy in to get energy out. I can see it may be good for small-scale actuators, but scaling up might be a problem. It would be hard to compete with the efficiency of an electric motor.

Although in braking the efficiency might surpass regenerative braking, still one must consider the cost and maintenance of this added system....
