Why Buy Canned Air?

09/14/2023 9:04 AM

Being the frugal person that I am,I found an easy free way to clean keyboards and other parts, like power supplies, etc.

Use a medium size drinking straw and lung power.

Large straws do not give enough volume and the small ones have too much resistance.

I have used 3/8 tubing of several feet length by creating an orifice in the end with hot glue.Simply fill the end with hot glue, then drill an appropriate size orifice hole for the application. This reduces loss in the long tubing, and increases pressure and velocity of the air.The length allows you to stay in fresh air as the dust flies.

Important:Do not inhale!!

Refillable Compressed Air Can - Amazon.com Official Site

Ok, so it's $30.00 USD, but it's pretty.

I'll see that, and raise you one high powered (550 watts- 3/4 hp) electric power duster for $40....basically a miniature leaf blower....

I use my air compressor which I already have for multiple other uses.

I'll assume you have a filter and regulator in line from the compressor. And if you have an in-line lubricator (for air tools) I'd hope you set it to zero before blowing dust out of sensitive equipment.

I fill a portable tank, about 2 gallon size, (that many years ago was purchased for the Freon it contained) from my air compressor, and carry it with a hose and nozzle.

It's only good for a couple of minutes of high pressure blowing, but that's commonly all that is needed, and it's a whole lot more effective than any device connected to my lungs. I have tried blowing with my lungs through many configurations of tubes, hoses, and nozzles, but lungs can't produce 100 PSI!

It's a whole lot more environmentally friendly than using a can of pressurized liquified hydrocarbon!

Me too! I even used my tank to run a pneumatic staple gun from on a ladder where my air hose wouldn't reach. My suggestion: When you build the tank drill and tap 3/8 NPT through the old valve and put a "cross" fitting on the tank. Put a schrader (tire) valve pointing up (one hand filling), a gage on one side, and a quick connect on the other. Mine holds pressure for months!

What a bunch of cheapskates we all are. I use a garden sprayer, plastic ~2 litre container with a built-in hand pump. 30s of pumping give sufficient time for a good blow job.

Breath contains water and other contaminants which may have a detrimental effect on equipment down the line.

A vacuum cleaner in blow mode with an inline filter works well.

An interesting idea but what if your false teeth come out and hit the keyboard, there could be a nasty F1 accident.

No I prefer to take the linted up objects out and use the regulated air supply I use for spray painting coupled to the air nozzle to waft the lint away. With the use of SMD there is no chance of desocketing chips except it the chips were spilt during a noshing.

With the use of breath to clean I also found that spittle tended to gum up the keys.

No,no,no.don't slobber in the tube.

But there is the chance of a Covid Virus variant taking up residence in your computer,a naturally evolving organism for which there is no cure.

Lots of cheap Chinese electric blowers on line $20 to$30, don't know how long they will last not advertised with brushles motors, high speed brush motors with sleeve bearings do not seem to last. But cheap enough for you guys.

If you are going to buy canned air,be sure you don't get mixed up and buy Canned Fart.

That stuff is terrible, and will clear a building quickly, even the flies will beat you out the door.

There was a version of that available in the UK back in the 80s.

I don't know how they got that skunk in the can, they must have rendered it down into a super concentrated extract and mixed it with hot horse urine, mule farts, constipated beaver gut, mutilated monkey meat and some unknown intensifiers.

The say you might be a redneck if you use a leaf blower in the house, but I must confess my leaf blower did a great job of blowing out my dryer vent!

The fine line for you might be a redneck is whether it was an electric or gas leaf blower.

You can tell if a redneck is married:there will be tobacco juice stains running down both doors of the truck, which always has a 1/4 CB antenna with a squirrel tail on it,and a gun rack on the back window and an 8 point buck antler bolted to the hood as a hood ornament.
