Can Nuclear Waste Ever Be Solved? Yes

12/27/2023 4:28 AM

Some would argue it already has been solved, it just hasn't been implemented in a timely fashion for indefensible reasons...Here are some points to consider in this video...

Sorry, I don't have time to watch this. However, the solution is relatively easy.

Once the RA waste is encapsulated, lower it into the Mariana Trench, 36,000 feet deep in the Pacific Ocean. As dense as the material is, it won't go anywhere but deeper into the sand/silt or whatever is on the bottom of the ocean, even if the container ruptures.

Because eventually we are going to need it for fuel, and accessing it that deep wouldn't be safe, especially if something had gone wrong...also any leakage would be free to migrate throughout the entire ocean...ocean dumping of nuclear waste has be going on for some 77 years at various amounts, it has been outlawed by nearly every country, but at different degree's, some low level waste is still allowed....the problem is it's exposing our food to increasing amounts of radiation...that's why an isolated geographically stable, but accessible location, is best...that way it can be monitored and retrieved if necessary....

That does not allow recycling of the "waste" to recover the 95% of uranium left in it.

What about "fast reactors"? From wikipedia "Fast-neutron reactors can potentially reduce the radiotoxicity of nuclear waste" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fast-neutron_reactor

I think that alternatives to traditional nuclear reactors, with technology from many, many years ago, are not yet considered. Why? I´dont know.

There is testing going on at this time, so some pilot plants have been built testing Gen IV technologies...the jury is still out on which way to go, but probably a more targeted approach as some designs are more suited to certain uses than others...such as direct disassociative production of hydrogen...and regionally strategic nuclear battery type systems...and no shut down liquid fuel strategies...water desalination and many others...

Why?

Politics is the only word really needed! But NIMBY plays a part because the people have not been educated about how much better Fast reactors are. Even the video spent 80% of its time on disposal, and only 20% on Gen IV methods. With fast reactors, the worst of the high-level is actually "used fuel." What remains is much less a problem, because the worst parts have been used to generate more power for the world.
