Unlock Bitlocker

12/11/2024 7:42 AM

I recently bought new win 11 computer, and installed my old (win10) hard drive in the spare bay.

The old drive is locked by Bitlocker, and I did not encrypt it, so I have no idea what the 48 bit key is.

I cannot access the drive because of this. I hate to reinstall it back in my old computer, but that will be a last resort. I have important data stored on the old hard drive I would like to access. I may end up with 2 computers instead of one. Any and all help on this mater is sincerely appreciated. It has been over 11 years since I set up a new computer, and it used to be very simple: out of the box and ready to go in 5 minutes, but not since they have made it "Easier".

Thanks in advance!

I recommend buying another hard drive, putting it in the new computer as additional storage space and then linking the old computer to the new computer using either an Ethernet switch or a cross-over cable and copy the files you want from the old computer to the new computer. Do you need to run the Win10 OS or just need the data?

I just need data. I will probably use a crossover cable and locate the old computer in another room.

Thanks!

i Rednek try this solution

To find your BitLocker key on your Microsoft account, use these steps:

  1. Open the BitLocker recovery keys page online.
  2. Sign in with your Microsoft account credentials (as necessary).
  3. Confirm the device name and “Key ID” to find the correct BitLocker recovery key.
There are support pages / Videos online from Microsoft to help you..

Ain't that the truth! And they make the operating systems worse with each revision, too!
