Triangular Antennae

12/13/2024 9:32 AM

I had a book on antennas from the 1960's but have lost it over the years.

It showed an antenna in the shape of a solid triangle, with a single hole in the center, and coax attached to the center hole, and the corner. I cannot find anything about this design and would appreciate any help on this.

You didn't say what the antenna was for....? So I'll take a potshot....

Thanks. Very eye opening! It was designed for industrial, scientific and medical purposes, and short range communications.

Also used in Microwaves, diathermy machines, etc.

..." These antennas are suited to a variety of wireless communication technologies, including Bluetooth, WLAN, and RFID, that operate in the 5.8 GHz ISM band [1]. CSTPAs are a modified version of the traditional triangular patch antenna, with circular slots added to the patch to increase the bandwidth and axial ratio. "...

I thought you might be trying to extend your bluetooth...

The one I saw was long before blue tooth or the net was even thought of. Evidently they had been in use for a long time.

I had a blue tooth long before it was a communication method. My dentist put in a temporary filling, and it was blue.

I also had a Blue tooth as a result of an abscess caused by dirty dentistry.

Came to a head just before Finals. Was ground down and replaced by a metal cap 50 odd years ago in Zambia.

The downside is that when going on Facetime it seems to glow in the dark from the light of the screen, not unlike Tony Curtis' diamond smile.

Must be some photon to photon emission.

With a sky hook.

If the hook won't hold, use a washer with an inside diameter greater than the outside diameter.

Actually, it was attached to the edge of the hole.

The washer you mention is a no dut washer derived from the negative log of the donut antenna and used to predict climb mate!

If you google "Old Antenna Design books" there are loads of them for sale, you might find your missing book there or something you can use but surely modern day technology will be far more efficient. I saw a reference to a triangular Antenna with measurement in mµ, micro electronics...
By the way I liked your one-liners, quite funny.

If you are interested in understanding the antenna a little better, you might look into the free 4NEC2 software (https://www.qsl.net/4nec2/) or other similar packages. I never went very far with this, but it is both amazing to start to understand antennas and amazing what you can do with free software.

If, by change, you do try this, I have a couple of suggestions:

  1. After the usual "dipole" and "beam/yagi" tutorials, you will want to jump to "patch" antennas.
  2. Many tutorials leave you feeling like patch antennas and other "random feeling geometry" antennas are out of reach of the free tools. Find YouTube videos, or do Google searches, for "cards" or "data cards" for 4NEC2 software. The software's heart and soul come from the old "card days" of computers. Once you jump to "cards" you leave behind the "free GUI" limitations and have a whole new world opened up to you.
  3. It has been years, but I recall that an Internet search can yield a 2 or 3 volume set of 4NEC2 manuals and/or specifications. This opens up the full magic of cards (probably vol 2 or vol 3 for the card specs).
  4. There are several good YouTube creators for basic 4NEC2 tutorials. I recall a guy named Karl as one of the standouts. There is another Ham and several others that are also very good.
  5. For "cards" and other advanced topics, look for an Asian YouTube creator that goes by something similar to "Mobile Fish". He moves at a rapid pace, but his mastery of 4NEC2 antenna modeling software is amazing.
  6. Google "W6NBC" and "John Portune" for similar antennas made from aluminum foil tape (duct tape).
