24V EGR valves

12/24/2007 10:49 PM

Kindly let me know any manufacture who Manufactures EGR valves operating directly on 24V system. M/s Pierburg is saying it is manufacturing only 12V EGR valves.

You may add a resistor for 12 V drop.

On Valve coil terminals it would be = 24 V (Power Supply) - I (coil current) * R (Ohms) = 12 V

Probably alot cheaper to go with the flow and use the 12 volt version of the EGR with on of the resistor methods to reduce the voltage to 12 volts.

IF you have 24 volt supply DC:

then 1 resistor 'in series' with the presumed 1 amp EGR can be 12 ohms. Then V = IR = 1 * 12 = 12 volt drop on resistor leaving `12 volts left for the EGR valve. Probably best since this arrangement only uses power when the EGR is activated (or coil energized). Use 12 watt resistor type @ 12 ohms since Watts = V I

Or you could use a resistor tree but its not necessary, requires 2 resistors, and uses power constantly too.

Don't forget to use a (presuming 1amp) fuse in series with EGR for safety .
