Electromagnet Design

12/28/2007 5:37 AM

Hi ,

I am presently working in designing the Electromagnet for Contactor.With reference to some Design Books, i have selected to go with EE shape cores.By considering certain assumed force ( eg : 500 gram ) i started to proceed the calculation.

1) My doubt whether i should consider F= B²A/2µo or F = 2*B²A/2µo.

2) Based on assumed force i have go further in designing the contact spring or first i have to deside the spring force & then design the Magnet.

Pls advise for the above clarification

Regards

Subramani

Hi

Look at the energy stored in the airgap:

W=F ds=B H/2 A ds=B^2 /(2 u0) A ds

so F=B^2/(2 u0) A
