Total Eclipse

03/28/2006 12:35 PM

The total eclipse on March 29 will be viewable only in a very narrow path through Africa and the Middle East. Don't worry though, you can view live from Turkey on the Exploratorium site. There's also a map of future eclipses if you're interested in being at one in person.

Wow

I guess the only thing to do now is to chose whether I want to view it from Libya, Niger, Nigeria, Chechnya, or Mongolia. You know it's a grim collection of countries when Mongolia sounds the safest.

I couldn't resist replying since I just got back from Libya. (The eclipse was, of course, stunning.) Not only did we feel absolutely safe but every Libyan we met wanted to welcome us (in excellent English, I might add) and I think would have invited us over for dinner had there been time. Don't believe the hype. And -- if you ever get the chance, go see a total solar eclipse.
